Last Gleaming

Day 186

lastGleaming

We went into Fred City to see the fireworks, but after getting rained on for a good while, decided it was not worth it. Instead we went home and celebrated with some sparklers.

Mary Birthday

Day 174

Brocks

I am not much into taking pictures of people posing for pictures. Sometimes I get asked to do it anyway. Since this time it was for my mother-in-law for her birthday, I was happy to oblige, and not just because she is one of the few people who reads this blog. Mary, I hope you like how it came out, and happy birthday!

Sunken Barn

Day 173

sunkenBarn

On Saturday evening, I saddled up the Rockhopper for a bit of photo-riding. Earlier in the day I saw a local farm that had fields full of those big round hay bales. Hoping to capture these in the setting sun trailing long shadows, I rolled my way there only to see a tractor loading them onto a trailer. I continued on and passed another farm where the corn has as high as a sheep's ear (or something like that), and since no one was harvesting it, I got some shots.

Shadow Lounger

Day 163

Shadow Lounger

The chair that casts this shadow is my favorite outdoor spot to lounge. I don't know what else to say about it. I thought it looked cool. So there.

Cooler Than You

Day 161

Cooler Than You

Taking a picture of a painting is cheating, but my mom was the painter, and I don't think she would have minded, especially for such a cool scene on a day as hot as this. This is an artistic view of what my backyard might look like in a few years when the trees have grown, and several neighbor's houses have burned down.

Fred Frog

Day 160

fredFrog

We took the kids into Fred City for the Frederick Festival of the Arts. The kids like this fest because of the paddle boats, and I have the sweat stains and sunburn to prove it. This frog was courtesy of Rick Heard from Rick Heard's Garden Originals, from whom we actually wound up buying another frog which I'm sure will show up here before too long. I also enjoyed many of the photography booths, but to be honest I routinely see stuff on Flickr and Zooomr that is as good as or better than much of what was being sold.

Hot Dog

Day 159

hotDog

The kids have been bugging me to setting up their slide pool since about January, and I finally got around to doing it. Since it had been sitting outside in a heap all winter, it was a bit of a project to get it clean (enough) and functional, especially with the temperature near 100 degrees F. Their enjoyment made it (nearly) worth the effort.

Non Chameleon

Day 138

nonChameleon

We spent the weekend in PA, and my brother and I did a mini-photowalk at our old high school. Owen J. Roberts (the name of the school, not of my brother) has really been cleaned up since we attended there in the 1980's.

Croc Hunter

Day 137

crocHunter

I do know this is pretty stupid, but you try to take interesting pictures of some stupid red plastic shoes for now six days in a row, and see what you come up with.

Two Feet In a Yard

Day 136

Two Feet In a Yard

The taking of this shot probably caused whatever neighbor who was looking out their window at the time to question their choice of neighborhoods. The subject and I were both laying in the grass, while I had a camera pointed at his feet. There goes the old property value.

Climbing The Stairway

Day 135

Climbing the Stairway

Shoe Week continues, and I'm learning that the "challenge" in PhotoChallenge is to find new and interesting ways to shoot the same subject, day after day. I had to rely on some PSE trickery for this shot, since we don't actually own this many red Crocs.

Croc Dog

Day 134

Croc Dog

Shoe Week continues, and since the real owner of these Crocs was in bed, I drafted my erstwhile friend and assistant to be a shoe model. She was none to pleased to be involved in this project, but she went along with it anyway, because that is just what she does.

Croc Delight

Day 133

crocDeLight

Though I did not use yesterday's photo here, today is the second day of the Shoe Week of the May PhotoChallenge. That means that the goal for this week is to take a shot of the same pair of shoes all week. As you can see, I chose my son's red crocs, based on the fact that they were around when I was taking the first shot.

Finish

Day 125

finish

Congrats to Shelley on finishing her first marathon and turning 36 all in one weekend. Details here.

American Spirit

Day 121

americanSpirit

Taking pictures of people is not a strength of mine, especially if I don't know the people. Since one of the main reasons I am doing this photo-a-day thing is to improve, it makes sense that I should work on stuff at which I am weak. When I was walking to work on my third day in NYC and took an accidental detour through Chinatown, I saw this scene. I figured it was worth a shot.

A River Runs Through It

Day 120

AB_Night

This is the view from my company's office in New York City. The foreground is New York, the background is New Jersey, and the Hudson River runs through it.

Three Lights

Day 119

threeLights

After scrambling to nearly miss my train to New York City, working in an office for the first time in years, exploring a bit of the city and eating some really tasty pizza, and getting settled into my hotel, I realized the day was nearly done and I had yet to take a picture. There is not much worth seeing inside a hotel room, but this eerie urban scene was just outside my window.

Surrounded

Day 118

surrounded

This was one of those days where it got to be 10 PM and I realize I had yet to take a picture. As the April Entropy challenge wanes, I decided to try to capture the entropic connection to my receiver.

And So It Goes

Day 117

andSoItGoes.jpg

We discovered this cool fountain in the Sculpture Garden in The Mall in D.C. I like this picture because I think it accurately conveys each kids respective personality. Shelley got a nice shot from this same spot:

Melting

Day 110

melting

The kids and I were left to our own devices (or is that just vices?) tonight, so that meant burgers, fries, and Ben & Jerry's. Not one of us can eat an ice cream cone without a bit of mess ensuing, so the kids got their cones, then this happened.
