Time and Space

Day 203

Time and Space

I wanted to have a moon in the picture to recognize the anniversary of Apollo 11 which was going on 39 years ago, or so I am told. I'm sure it was something to see. As amazing as it is that we went to the moon, what is more amazing to me is that we've not gone back in so long. It's about time.

Flower Bath

Day 202

In the evening, after a rain is one of my favorite times to shoot. The interesting light and reflections can often transform a common scene into something more extraordinary.

Day Two Hundred

Day 200

Day200

Ten score and zero days ago I set out on this photo a day odyssey. During all that time, of all the photos I've taken, today's photo is definitely one of them. Setting up this shot involved me out on the patio at 10:00 PM trying to get these candles to stay up so I could get the shot. How cool the neighbors must think I am.

Mutt on a Wire

Day 198

Mutt On a Wire

Midnight is fast approaching and I realize no photos yet taken this day. Time to goof around with stuff in my office, along with this minifig from my daughter's Lego Indiana Jones set. Like a true hero (or the son of one anyway) he manages to keep the dream alive.

Indiana Jones and the Fruit of the Doom

Day 196

relic2

I didn't want to have the only blog that did not talk about the new iPhone. This however, is the old iPhone. Despite the fact the Indy is discovering it, don't think it belongs in a museum just yet. Despite what it lacks from the new 3G model, it still has some gas in the tank.

Easy Being Green

Day 192

easyBeingGreen

Walking back into this house, I spotted this little fellow hanging out on a tree. Oddly, he had situated himself on the one part of the tree that was not green. Perhaps he was trying to stand out, and if so, I'm sure the local birds appreciated it.

Motionless

Day 191

motionless

He had a crazy storm blow through early this evening. One moment it was raining quite nicely, then the rain suddenly stopped and the skies began to clear. This sunflower was holding on the rain even as it looked again for the sun.

Hold the Light

Day 190

Hold the Light

I don't have too much to say about this one. This holds the light that illuminates it. There might be a metaphor in this.

Guardian of For Now

Day 189

Guardian Of For Now

I continue to bend the definition of "light fixture" for the July challenge, but so it goes. In case you were wondering, this is an illuminated mouse pad. If you look closely through the archives, you'll notice that it has showed up in several other shots this year.

Unamed Faucet Picture

Day 188

Unamed Faucet Picture

For this day I am back on the July light fixture challenge. The hardest part of this shot was trying to come up with a clever name. Eventually, I just gave up.

ReCap

Day 187

ReCap

On July 5th 2007, I took a picture of an Ultimate Captain America statue, and posted it to my Zooomr account. A year later, that picture had been viewed over 6,000 times and been favorited over 50 times, making it far and away by most popular photo ever. To put that in perspective, that is more than twice the combined number of all of my 500+ pictures on Flickr.

Given this shot's popularity, you couldn't blame me for wanting to try again. So today's shot is the same statue from a different angle in which I went for a different mood in post-processing.

Let the Moonlight Take the Lid Off Your Dreams

Day 185

Let the Moonlight Take the Lid Off Your Dreams

For more than six years this nightlight has been illuminating my children when they sleep and keeping the monsters safely contained under the bed or in the closet.

Fake Light From the Sun

Day 184

Fake Light From the Sun

It is a new month, and wouldn't you know it, there is a new challenge from PhotoChallenge.org. This July Challenge is all about lighting fixtures. Today's lighting fixture is a rather dim solar light that sits beside the patio. This was a 30" exposure, which to the layman is about half a minute.

Half Way

Day 183

Half Way

Since this is the 183rd day of my photo-a-day odyssey, that means I have reached the half way point. I am surprised and pleased to have taken at least one decent shot every day so far this year. The reason I set out on this project was to get better at seeing and recording all those things and moments in my life and world that might otherwise go unnoticed and unremembered. I think I've done well enough with this goal so far, but I hope to keep getting better in the next 183 days.

Back West

Day 178

Back West

This guy usually sits on my desk and reminds that there is a world outside my office that is waiting to be explored. This evening he went into the outside and felt the sun on his back. Or he would have felt it if he were not made of an old railroad spike.

The Only Good Fly

Day 177

The Only Good Fly

Living with two kids and a dog, the doors of our house are constantly being opened and closed. Because of this, we have more than our fair share of house flies. They don't call them bugs for no reason, and I do not feel sorry when one of these uninvited guests goes tets-up. They are also much easier to photograph that way.

Time Cubed

Day 176

Time Cubed

I'd like to tell you that this image represents the past flying away. What it actually represents is the fact that I can't count, and thought today was Day 175. Can I get a "D'oh!"?

Mary Birthday

Day 174

Brocks

I am not much into taking pictures of people posing for pictures. Sometimes I get asked to do it anyway. Since this time it was for my mother-in-law for her birthday, I was happy to oblige, and not just because she is one of the few people who reads this blog. Mary, I hope you like how it came out, and happy birthday!

Summer Solstice

Day 172

summerSolstice

You may recall that exactly one season ago, I posted a shot of the reflective orb thingy in my back yard. At the time, I planned to take the same shot on the first day of each season. Here is the next installment. As you can see, some growth has happened, and if you look closely, you may even see a bug.

Heading Home

Day 169

Heading Home

This is a bluebird house in the backyard, but this is not a bluebird. No, in fact, this is a tree swallow, and it is tending to a set of eggs that we can assume are future tree swallows. The practical joker in me wonders what would happen if I swapped the back yard tree swallow eggs with the front yard duck eggs. I am sure that hilarity would ensue.
