This is the Day

Photo #78

I admit it, I am a big fan of buskers. They bring music to the world, often unexpectedly, and that is a good thing. This guy was putting his heart into it. He seemed like the kind of busker who is doing for the love of music, as if there was some good music in that horn and he needed to get it out into the world.

Southern Bell

Photo #43
Having done it myself, I have respect for anyone in a marching band, marching in a parade. Of all the parades I did, there was nothing even slightly close to marching in a Mardis Gras parade. This was one of many great bands from the Krewe of Endymion parade which someone told me was close to 7 miles long! That's just crazy. I don't know how any of these kids do it, but especially the guys carrying sousaphones.

Day 144 - Dad's Gibson - 4 May 2011

Dad's Gibson

As the story goes, some time during the mid-twentieth century, my dad played in a band. He played piano until he realized that piano was not the chick-magnet he expected it to be. That is when he got this guitar. I don't know what happened after that.

He Loves You

He Loves You

There was a time when I could play the saxophone. Maybe I didn't have mad skillz, but I could carry a tune - especially if that tune was Dr. J. For President. It has been many years since those days, and whatever "chops" (cool music guy word) I once had are long gone. That said, I wonder what would happen if I dusted off the old Bundy II, set up in some public place, and coaxed out whatever sound I could. If I did, I would definitely need one of these fuzzy "I Love You" hearts to hang on my tip can because anyone listening would probably conclude otherwise.

Jazz Club

Jazz Club

I must have walked pass the door to this jazz club in Greenwich Village three times before I finally decided to take a chance and go in. As much as I like jazz and new experiences, it felt a bit weird to go into a place like this by myself. I am so glad that I did. B.D. Lenz Group played the exact kind of funky cool tunes that I needed to get out of my own head for a while and lose myself to the night.

Listen!
