Surrounded

Day 118

surrounded

This was one of those days where it got to be 10 PM and I realize I had yet to take a picture. As the April Entropy challenge wanes, I decided to try to capture the entropic connection to my receiver.

And So It Goes

Day 117

andSoItGoes.jpg

We discovered this cool fountain in the Sculpture Garden in The Mall in D.C. I like this picture because I think it accurately conveys each kids respective personality. Shelley got a nice shot from this same spot:

Butterfly Tickle Nose

Day 116

Butterfly Tickle Nose

This may or may not be the same butterfly from Day 106. All three were set free, but this one returned a few minutes later and was captured. At this point this shot was taken, it could no longer fly, which made it a much more manageable plaything.

Praying Babies of The Future

Day 115

Praying Babies Of The Future

This may contain 12-400 Praying Mantis babies. There were more than a few of these on various plants in the yard. We put another one into the nearly vacated butterfly habitat, so we have that to look forward to.

Armed and Dangerous

Day 114

Armed and Dangerous

I guess it says something about my priorities that when I saw this beauty in my backyard, my first reaction was excitement for the photography potential. Also, when I was done shooting it, I left it there to spread its seed across my lawn.

Spring Fall

Day 113

springFall

The blossoms from our backyard peach tree did not survive two days of rain. Now they are just mulch.

Frayed So

Day 112

Frayed So

Back to the entropy for day 112, courtesy of my tertiary jeans. I lit this shot using a wireless flash in the bottom of the pant leg, which let the light come out through the giant hole in the knee. Don't worry, I was wearing other pants at the time, as far as you know.

Puddle Jumper

Day 111

Puddle Jumper

Puddles are near the top of the list of Things My Kids Can't Walk Past. Other things on the list include carousels, cotton candy vendors, and sliding boards.

Melting

Day 110

melting

The kids and I were left to our own devices (or is that just vices?) tonight, so that meant burgers, fries, and Ben & Jerry's. Not one of us can eat an ice cream cone without a bit of mess ensuing, so the kids got their cones, then this happened.

Flame

Day 109

flame

The weather was perfect for the first backyard campfire of the season. Under the moon and the constellations, the air was cool, the beer was cooler, and the fire was warm.

Fred City Steeple

Day 108

Fred City Steeple

We were in town to attend my daughter's art show and have a celebratory dinner. This was shot on the way back to the car after dinner.

Heading West

Day 107

headingWest

This is an old barn across the street from our neighborhood. Since it is falling part, it was perfect for the April Entropy challenge. I was able to time my visit so that I could shoot during the magic hour, and got this shot just as the sun was going behind the mountain. Click through to the photostream to see other shots from this photo-ride.

Very Hungry Butterfly

Day 106

veryHungryButterfly

This Painted Lady Butterfly just hatched in my daughter's butterfly habitat. There are a couple of more chrysalises that may also soon hatch. This one has been named Cindy Brady Roth. Cindy is best viewed large.

My Soggy Life

Day 105

My Soggy Life

Your Life will fall apart. It will if you leave it in the milk too long. Even Cinamon Life, as shown here. The moral of this story is, make the most of your life before it gets soggy.

Death By Chocolate

Day 104

Death By Chocolate

As he returned to the liquid state from which he was born, he thought "At least my ears were not eaten first."

Aqueduct 08

Day 103

Aqeduct08

It is always so much fun to take pictures of the kids, especially when they'd rather be doing something else (which is to say, anytime I try to take their picture). This shot is the third in a so far three year tradition of shots from this same location. You can click through to the previous shots here:

Walk Away Tomorrow

Day 102

Walk Away Tomorrow

Shelley tells me that this is a clematis. I'm not sure how well it is doing, but like this it is a little ball of chaos, perfect for the April Challenge.

Out Of Place

Day 101

These seem to be blossoms, but they were growing on the trunk of a tree, so I have idea what is going on.

Stir Fry

Day 100

stirFry, originally uploaded by DuckBrown.

I was hoping to be inspired to do something extra special for Day 100. Instead, I made dinner.

Not Your Time

Day 99

Not Your Time

A country church along a meandering country road has a small cemetery with very old stones that remind us that people have been living and dying here for a very long time.

Nothing Lasts

Day 98

nothingLasts

This 3-D puzzle really wants to come apart, despite all my efforts to keep it together. Now that my daughter has seen it, I suspect she will help entropy run its course, since that is what kids do best.

All This Time

Day 97

All ThisTime

I went on a photo-riding expedition back to the truck graveyard from Day 19. This time I actually got permission from the proprietor, who was quite an interesting guy, as you might expect from someone who collects old rusty Ford trucks.

Brokeback Bunny

Day 96

brokebackBunny

You may be surprised that a fortnight after Easter, and still there remains a (nearly) intact chocolate bunny. It had a little entropy in its hindquarters (not to be confused with junk in the trunk), and there was nothing better, so this hare is here.

Ka Chow!

Day 95

kachow

Welcome to Day 95. Is it any surprise that today's shot features the world famous race car Lightning McQueen, decked out in his Radiator Spring finest?

Turn a Square

Day 94

turnASquare

Continuing the entropy theme for April, I took this shot at a seemingly unused barn that I pass by all the time.

Looking Back

Day 93

lookinBack

These crepe mertle blossoms seem to be remembering their glory days last summer.

Dismantle

Day 92

dismantle

For the month of April, there is a new challenge from PhotoChallenge.org . This time it is not colors, but rather it is "entropy". So, as best as I can keep up with it, look for shots this month that show disorder, randomness, and devolution. Today's shot is of our mantle, which is over 150 years old. It is rough and split, with random bits of metal that it acquired from its time as part of a barn.
