This is one time when an image really fails to capture the deliciousness of a most a pig roasting all day on a smokey fire. This is the tenth such pig we've enjoyed at my brother's annual Pig Pickin'. If you are not from the South, you might need to look that up, but two important things you should know:

1. Barbecue is meat. It is not a grill on an event
2. It is sooooo good

Day 135 - Sockeye Plus Five - 25 Apr 2011

One of the nice things about the warmer months is that we tend to grill out a lot. Actually, we tend to grill out a lot during the colder months, too. Point is I like to cook food on the grill.

That's all I have to say about that.

Day 58 - Linguini - 7 Feb 2011

Even people on a photo odyssey need to eat. That means that sometimes they need to cook. And that leads to the zone where food and photography meet. So what if the kids are hungry and the water is boiling out of the pot?

Whoever it was that decided it would be a good thing to leave Ol' Santa some cookies and milk on Christmas Eve deserves a medal. I'm quite sure that at some point after I took this pictures, this delicious snack was consumed and enjoyed very much, thank you.

Funny Fruit

Long before apples, oranges, or mangos were doing it, the trend setting banana was wearing stickers. Now, the stickers have gone beyond just the brand mark to become something much more appealing. This particular sticker is quite appropriate since this acronym could go to no other fruit but the banana. If they were to give out titles, the banana would be declared "The Funny Fruit" (not to be confused with beans, which win a different title). How many great laughs has the slipping on a banana peel brought us? The number can't be counted.

I don't know why they make green ice cream cones, and I really don't know why we bought them, and I totally have no idea why my kids think they are awesome. Didn't stop me from taking a picture of one though, right before I filled it up and ate it.

I did not want to go to my son's elementary school for their Thanksgiving lunch. It was two weeks before the actual Thanksgiving, I was sure the food would be mediocre, and I thought I was just too busy. After a very unpleasant morning, I decided I needed to get out for a bit, so I decided to go anyway. I was very thankful that I did.

Taking a picture of a candy bar is not the best thing you can do with a candy bar, but it is something. This was one small part of the Halloween bounty that came into our house now that my kids have realized that more houses equals more candy. Being the good father that I am, however, I do not let my kids eat all the candy they get. I make sure a good portion of it goes elsewhere.

I've taken up a new hobby lo these past few months - smoking meat. Everything else in life moves much too fast, so slow cooking is literally a nice change of pace. This chicken, along with two racks of beef ribs took about five hours, but man, was it all worth it.

(And yes, I realize I got out of order with these posts.)

Pumpkin Duty

I don't know what it is about Friday nights, but somehow I tend to wind up some of my more popular shots. I envisioned this shot as each Trooper carrying a Mellowcreme pumpkin, but the minifigs short arms made this impossible. So instead, the two Clone Troopers had to work together, leaving the Storm Trooper with nothing to do. That is when I spied the bag of candy corn that my awesome wife from Day 264 had also purchased, and voila!.

My favorite style of beer is definitely Oktoberfest. I'd like to thank Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen for getting married back on 12 October 1810, and starting the tradition of Oktoberfest, which has since led to this delicious style of beer. Along with Spiced Wafers, it is one of my favorite parts of Autumn. Though this glass was a bit less than a Maß, it was followed by a couple more to make up the difference.

Chef Sweetzel

Anyone who has lived in the Greater Philadelphia area should recognize this Chef. He adorns the bright orange box of Sweetzel's Spiced Wafers. Throughout my childhood, around this time each year, these boxes started showing up in grocery stores, and shortly thereafter they would show up in our house. They became inexorably linked with Fall. Now that I don't live in the Greater Philadelphia area, it is rare that I get to enjoy these tasty cookies. That is why I exclaimed in a loud and apparently startling way when I found four boxes of these at my local Giant.

After I took this shot, I decided to cut the melon off the rind and put it in the fridge. I cut off many pieces of delicious melon, but not a one made it into the fridge. As it turns out, you can eat too much melon. I'll leave it at that.

This is a Clone Trooper who is serving as a decoration on my son's birthday cake. Maybe not the most macho assignment a trooper can get, but it has to beat fighting droids or betraying Jedi.

Another shot of food in the kitchen, taken in nearly the same spot as yesterday's, in case you are curious (though I can't imagine why you would be). Before you go congratulating me on making a healthy snack choice, you should know I used slices of this orange to festoon several pints of Blue Moon beer.

Probably the best thing to say about this shot is that it keeps the streak alive. As much as I have to try to have a photo a day, I have to try equally hard to not have a bowl of ice cream a day. This day I was successful in the former, but not so much in the latter.
