I took this on the day that Leornard Nimoy died. For me, like for so many others, he was part of the reason I became a fan of Star Trek in specific and science fiction in general. I can remember watching reruns back in the mid-70's on a TV in the "playroom" of our house (which is odd because I also don't remember there being a TV there).

This toy is actually of the Evil Spock (you can tell by the goatee) from the Mirror Universe. From everything I've heard about Mr. Nimoy since his death, he was anything but evil. I'm sad he is gone, but the world certainly did prosper from his stay here.

You cannot have good without also having evil. It is a two sides of a the same coin situation. Han Solo and the rest of the Rebel Alliance would have no reason to be on Hoth if they weren't trying to hide from the Empire. Luckily for the latter, they had special Storm Troopers equipped with thermal underwear and cool helmets designed for just such a wintry locale. What these Snow Troopers lacked however, were snow shoes. You'd have to think with the extra weight of all that ineffective armor, they would occasionally sink into the snow.

I wonder why they didn't call them Snow Storm Troopers

In previous odysseys, I felt like I was overly reliant on toys as subjects. In order to lessen this reliance, I opposed a 50 photo no-toy rule on myself. Welcome to photo #53. With snow blanketing this part of the world, a nice wintry landscape shot might be expected. Nope. Instead you get Han Solo out looking for his friend Luke out on the frozen planet of my deck.

Day 77 - People Say We Monkey Around - 26 Feb 2011

My son got to reprise his Day 68 role of a Ben Franklin statue that comes to life, only this time he got to do it my favorite Fred City toy store. That left me with some time on my hands to explore the toy store while he talked to strangers about his life as a printer, an inventor, and a patriot. Luckily I also had a camera on my hands, so I did what any good dad would do - took pictures of the toys.

The Lego Advent Calendar is one of the most brilliant ideas to come out of Denmark in quite some time. It is especailly cool and also a bit spooky when day by day you wind up building your own family. Here is me, and if I do say so, I make that green v-neck look good.

Hey, look - it's a bunch of Lego mini-figs. I decided to feature them this day since I had spent much of Christmas and Boxing Day playing with helping my kids build their new Lego sets. And because they are just so cool.

The days until Christmas were counted down this year with the help of a Lego City advent calendar. This day's prize was a mountain climber equipped with an ice axe. Since Mother Nature was kind enough to freeze the lily pond, the subject for this day's photo seemed obvious.

The kids were looking for toys to give away, which of course means that a number of toys which had have set neglected have suddenly become the new favorites that we just can't give away because they love them and can we keep them please, because they will play with them everyday. So these Weebles, which were all set to find a new home will be staying here until next year or until we can sneak them away.

Ah, Toys (backwards) R Us. Is there any destination that is more alluring to children and so much not so to adults? Yes there is - Chuck E Cheese. But TRU is definitely in a close 2nd, and even closer still at this time of year. Even worse this year is that there are reports that at our local branch, a strange man has been spotted walking around taking pictures of the toys. These might be just rumors though, because I was there and did not see him.

My son was really into Underdog for about 3 seconds last year. It happens that those 3 seconds occurered at the time when he made his list for Santa, so Christmas morning found this bobble-head waiting for him under the tree. Since then, he has been shaking his noggin on a shelf right next to a bobble-head Darth Vader that for some reason used to be my daughter's.

Several years ago, my son was heavy into Thomas the Tank Engine, and friends. As happens with most fascinations, this faded with time until the engines of Sodor and their accessories were resigned to a lonley existence in a drawer in the basement. That is until a younger friend came to visit and the trains were retrieved. Now, at least for the moment these toys are back in the action.

Yeah, it is another Lego shot. What can I say? Some days there are lots of things to see and take pictures of, and other days you are staring at a screen all day and need to make something up and take a picture of it.

Duck Brown has a long and interesting history of being featured in photographs, both here, abroad, and in France. This shot was very much the former, as it was taken a few feet from where I now type this at my desk. I'll leave you with this question: What is the difference between a duck and a bulldog?

Pumpkin Duty

I don't know what it is about Friday nights, but somehow I tend to wind up some of my more popular shots. I envisioned this shot as each Trooper carrying a Mellowcreme pumpkin, but the minifigs short arms made this impossible. So instead, the two Clone Troopers had to work together, leaving the Storm Trooper with nothing to do. That is when I spied the bag of candy corn that my awesome wife from Day 264 had also purchased, and voila!.

If you remember those alligators from a few days ago, this is Bad Guy who controls them. Actually, this is the Bad Guy who controls them even if you don't remember those alligators. What this guy really represents is the fact that I could not find anything better to shoot this day. Whenever you see a Lego guy in here, that usually is the reason.

Comets and Gators

There are just so many cool Legos now. These two guys (the green ones that is) are part of a Lego Agent set. I think they are some type of cyborg alligators because they have gearshifts and computer screens. All they are missing are some friggin' lasers for their heads.

BTW, the orange guys are Comets, which is a slightly more expensive way of saying Goldfish.

When it is not walking down stairs or making a slinkity sound, this Slinky enjoys posing in the setting sun and reflecting. At least it is not a flower shot.

Indiana Jones is big in my house right now. He's also small in my house, in the form of a Lego minifig. Here he is with his father riding past the waterfalls trying to escape the Nazis. By Nazis, I mean Slobber Bob (from Day 222) who would like to drool on them.

Midnight is fast approaching and I realize no photos yet taken this day. Time to goof around with stuff in my office, along with this minifig from my daughter's Lego Indiana Jones set. Like a true hero (or the son of one anyway) he manages to keep the dream alive.

I didn't want to have the only blog that did not talk about the new iPhone. This however, is the old iPhone. Despite the fact the Indy is discovering it, don't think it belongs in a museum just yet. Despite what it lacks from the new 3G model, it still has some gas in the tank.
