Pie Guy

Day 204

Pie Guy

We're on vacation in Delaware - the no sales tax state. While we waited for our table at the Cottage Cafe, we explored the nearby stores. I am guessing that this is Griff from Griff's Bakery n' Donut Shop (est 1986, Parking on Premises). Too bad for us and for Griff that they were not open, but the cakes we saw through the window looked tasty.

Two Flower

Day 204

Two Flower

This is the second of three shots of flowers in the backyard. Nothing too exciting, but good to be taking shots outside rather than in my office late at night.

Flower Bath

Day 202

flowerbath

In the evening, after a rain is one of my favorite times to shoot. The interesting light and reflections can often transform a common scene into something more extraordinary.

Taking Off

Day 201

Taking Off

With the temperature in the 90's and the air at Code Orange, we decided it would be a good day for a 25 mile bike ride. By "we" I mean Shelley. I went along anyway, and it was not too bad on the way down. We covered the last 12.5 miles of the C&O Canal Tow Path, and arrived in Georgetown ready for a break. Going back was worse since it was hotter and slightly uphill. I was looking for any opportunity to take a break, and when I saw this heron I was off my bike before it even stopped. Heron is hero with an n.

Day Two Hundred

Day 200

Day200

Ten score and zero days ago I set out on this photo a day odyssey. During all that time, of all the photos I've taken, today's photo is definitely one of them. Setting up this shot involved me out on the patio at 10:00 PM trying to get these candles to stay up so I could get the shot. How cool the neighbors must think I am.

Sluggish

Day 197

sluggish

When doing some work in the backyard, I discovered this fellow slowly making his way to somewhere. He didn't seem to mind a supersonic (to him anyway) trip on my shovel to a nearby rock where he posed for some shots.

Take Down Johnny Reb

Day 195

Take Down Johnny Reb

I travelled back to the past to the year 1864 to photograph the Battle of the Monocacy. You can tell this is really in the past because of the sepia. There is just no way to fake that.

Across the Creek

Day 194

Across the Creek

As we were walking back from a concert in Baker Park, on our way to visit our friends Ben & Jerry, we enjoyed the view along Carol Creek. If I bring along my camera, Fred City never lets me down.

Point of Sun

Day 193

pointOfSun

Not far away there is a very cool old train station in Point of Rocks, MD. The July challenge is not "cool old train stations" however, so this is a light at said station, catching the evening sun behind it.

Easy Being Green

Day 192

easyBeingGreen

Walking back into this house, I spotted this little fellow hanging out on a tree. Oddly, he had situated himself on the one part of the tree that was not green. Perhaps he was trying to stand out, and if so, I'm sure the local birds appreciated it.

Motionless

Day 191

motionless

He had a crazy storm blow through early this evening. One moment it was raining quite nicely, then the rain suddenly stopped and the skies began to clear. This sunflower was holding on the rain even as it looked again for the sun.

Last Gleaming

Day 186

lastGleaming

We went into Fred City to see the fireworks, but after getting rained on for a good while, decided it was not worth it. Instead we went home and celebrated with some sparklers.

Fake Light From the Sun

Day 184

Fake Light From the Sun

It is a new month, and wouldn't you know it, there is a new challenge from PhotoChallenge.org. This July Challenge is all about lighting fixtures. Today's lighting fixture is a rather dim solar light that sits beside the patio. This was a 30" exposure, which to the layman is about half a minute.

Half Way

Day 183

Half Way

Since this is the 183rd day of my photo-a-day odyssey, that means I have reached the half way point. I am surprised and pleased to have taken at least one decent shot every day so far this year. The reason I set out on this project was to get better at seeing and recording all those things and moments in my life and world that might otherwise go unnoticed and unremembered. I think I've done well enough with this goal so far, but I hope to keep getting better in the next 183 days.

Smells Like Summer

Day 182

Smells Like Summer

There are certain scents that can take you back in time to the old days. For me, the smell of honeysuckle always reminds me of many childhood adventures playing in the woods around the house where I grew up.

Works in Progress

Day 181

Works In Progress

For the first time ever, we made it entirely through a Frederick Keys (Single A) baseball game. To celebrate this historic occasion, the Keys rewarded us with a decent fireworks show. For me it was a good chance to practice for Quatro de Julio.

Tiny Swallows

Day 180

tinySwallows

We've seen that bird flying in out out of the bird house, and here are the reasons why. It is a bit surprising to me how cute baby birds aren't. They look a bit giant flies.

Crazy Steve

Day 179

crazySteve

This guy's name is Steve, and he is crazy. Well, not really crazy. Actually, I don't know him that well, but he seems sane enough. We played his team in backyard volleyball, and since he was cool enough to mug for the shot, he has earned all the glory that comes with being today's photo.

Back West

Day 178

Back West

This guy usually sits on my desk and reminds that there is a world outside my office that is waiting to be explored. This evening he went into the outside and felt the sun on his back. Or he would have felt it if he were not made of an old railroad spike.

Peeks

Day 175

peeks

Remember that bird flying into the bird house last week. If you look closely enough, you may be able to see it here.
