Caught

Photo #60

Something about being at those Mardi Gras parades makes you really want those beads. Even though we got more selective in what we caught, then left a good bit of those behind to be recycled, we still came home with lots and lots of beads. I don't know what we are going to do with them. File this under It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.

The Beads of the Few

Photo #47
I got up early on the morning of Lundi Gras to explore the town and take pictures in the exact way that most visitors to New Orleans don't. Not far along my way I say more of the ubiquitous beads. These were not flying from a float but instead were decorating the iron fence of some random house in Mid Town. I did not stop to think if there was some deeper meaning to this - instead I just enjoyed the way the sunlight made them sparkle.

Day 87 - Fat Tuesday Tire Bite - 8 Mar 2011

Fat Tuesday Tire Bite

Though I have only been there a few times, I love New Orleans. The combination of food, music, and culture is like nowhere else on Earth. Don't tell Florida or Arizona, but I hope to retire there someday.

When Fat Tuesday rolled around, I could not be in NOLA, so I went somewhere closer that I hoped would do - WOW Wingery, which despite the name actually has some fair New Orleans fare. In addition to this tasty Flying Dog (which was brewed less than a mile away), I had some decent gumbo and a shrimp po-boy. There were beads and jazz (recorded), so all-in-all it wasn't too bad.
