No Return

No Return

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I must be a big fan of myself, because I took this same picture a few months earlier, and even wrote about it here on Roth365. This time Shelley was along, which makes not only the picture but also the trip that much better.

Apotheke

Apotheke

Want to know a good way to not pick up chicks in a hot, cool, secret, happenin' New York City bar? Take your DSLR out of your combination camera/laptop backpack and start taking pictures of the cool bottles behind the bar. Yup, that will keep the ladies away.

The Light Ahead

The Light Ahead

My grandparents owned a dry cleaning plant and always had vans that they used for, I'm not sure what (delivering the clean clothes? Did dry cleaners used to do that? Do they still? Maybe I would know this if my work clothes were not jeans and t-shirts on a good day). Point is, they had vans. So, when I saw this antique van, it brought back some memories, which I guess is the whole point of antiques.

Come Fly With Me

Come Fly With Me

There was a time long ago when chrome wasn't just a browser - it was also a metal. They used to put it on cars in all kinds of crazy and creative ways, including hood mounted origami birds like this one. A real motor-head could tell you what kind of car this is based on this bird, but all I can tell you is that it was a greenish/blueish car.

Big Willy Style

Big Willy Style

This taken a good while after sunset. That is the nice thing about using a tripod and a long exposure - it can capture enough light to make night look like day, and also smooth out the choppy water.. Of course I could have just taken the shot during the day when it was not windy and may not have looked all that different. What's the fun in that?

New Moon Shine

New Moon Shine

Despite the title, this is not a moon. Nor is it a space station. It is actually sunset from the shores of Tilghman Island. I did some work in post-processing to give it an entirely different fee. Perhaps I should post the original for comparison.

Glass Flower

Glass Flower

As I get further away from the photo-a-day lifestyle in seems that more and more of my photographs are concentrated on those lucky occasions when the Mrs. and I get to go a weekend jaunt. This shot was taken on such a getaway to St. Mary's, MD, in what the local may call the Eastern Shore. It is the kind of place with many colorful yet overpriced things.

Small Worlds

Small Worlds

And here is the other shot I submitted for the World Wide Photo Walk (tm). This also did not win. So it goes. I still like it.

100 Strangers - Stranger 1

I've decided to undertake a new photography project. One of my weaknesses is candid street photography - especially with regards to portraits. In hopes of improving in this area, I've decided to take portraits of 100 strangers.

I'm pragmatic enough on this one to not try to do it in 100 days, especailly given that most days I don't leave the house, yet alone see a stranger. Instead, I've set no time limit on this - I will take and post the shots as the opportunities arise.

I'm kickng this off today with my 1000th shot on Flickr that I took last weekend in Times Square:

Stranger 1 - Times Sqaure

When I took this shot, I was not sure if this man was looking at me and was upset that I was taking his photo, and after studying the shot, I'm still not sure. I suspect that people being annoyed with me will be a too common theme in this project, but oh well.

Many Days

Many Days

I am a big fan of Fred City (or Frederick, MD as it is called by everyone who is not me). Having done more than a few informal photowalks there, I was excited to be part of the official World Wide Photo Walk. Turns out it was not something to be all the excited about, but still I got a few decent pictures out of it. This was one of the two that I submitted.
