Hold Out Your Hand

Hold Out Your Hand

This was one of those spur of the moment shots. While sitting at my desk, for some reason I can no longer recall, I held my hand up and liked how the light from the window was hitting it. My camera was handy (intended) so I picked it up and took this shot. Just a bit of post processing, and there you go.

Final Exit

Final Exit

On the other side of this door is New York City - East Broadway at the Manhattan Bridge - right in the chaotic heart of a Chinatown morning. People are hurrying in all directions as vendors unload truckfuls of mysterious produce and other unknown wonders while cars and trains pass by noisily on the bridge. This side of the door holds quiet and calm, but that all changes as you pass through, and there is no going back.

Listen!

Broome Street

Broome Street

This is a nice little place at the corner of Broome Street and West Broadway in New York. I stopped here on my way back to the hotel to grab a burger and a beer, and because my face was frozen.

Ella Was Here

Day 348

Ella Was Here

Hey look - no Christmas decorations today. Instead I was able to capture this moment where my daughter was watching my wife play piano. I say "watching" because she seemed much more interested in the motions and the mechanics of the piano then in the actual music being produced. This moment was brief and fleeting as my son soon approached and created a scrum for the prime viewing spot.

Tower and the Sky

Day 320

towerAndTheSky

The time had come to go back to the Flying Dog Brewery, to celebrate a race in which I did not run. As hard as it is to believe, they have actually improved the place since the last time we went. The bar area is bigger and fancier, and the beer is still free (though now you have to buy a $5 glass to enjoy the free beer. I'll predict we'll have a quite a collection of these glasses before long.)

Thanks to the Brothers Bernota for organizing the festivities.

Wish

Day 302

wish

Five is a magical birthday because you are old enough to understand the concept of the birthday wish but young enough to truly believe in its power.

Better Than One

Day 30

betterThanOne

A retired railroad spike reflects on itself. We picked this up years ago from Brunswick, MD, when my son was heavy into trains. It got shiny after we sanded off years of rust.

Flare

25 January 2008

flare2

What's Friday without a little flare? Yes, I realize I am in a bit of rut with blue glass, but at least this time I made black and white so it is not so obvious.

Mugger

15 January 2008

mugger

These pewter things hang in our kitchen, but I'm not sure what they are. They are like bottomless mugs (not the free refills kind). They caught my eye when the just risen sun was touching them this morning.

I had to take a walk because the weather was so nice today, and saw this along the way.
